The World Strongest Man China GP Tournament 2000

 

The World Strongest Man China GP Tournament 2000 was held with a great success on October 15th-18th, 2000 in Panyu City, Guangdong Province. Mr. Magnus Samuelsson from Sweden won the tournament following by Mr. Hugo Girard from Canada and Mr. Janne Virtanen from Finland, who is the World Strongest Man 2000.

 

The China GP Tournament was organized by IFSA, the International Federation of Strength Athletes which is the covering body for the World Strongest Man Competitions together with Panyu Government, National Sport Byro of China. World Strongest Man Competitions are large media events attracting large audiences in Europe and the USA since 1972.

 

The forerunner of today’s Strongest Man Competitions were inaugurated in Scotland in the 15th century when the highland games where arranged by Scottish Kings in order to select the strongest man in the country to protect Kings at times of war. These historic events are living today with Strongest Man Competitions worldwide.

 

Traditionally Strongest Man Competitions have been centered in the USA and Europe, however, Asia Pacific has now entered into the IFSA circuit. China is leading this development and the City of Panyu produced an excellent World Strongest Team Competition in 1999 following by this year GP Tournament.

 

All the competitors are the Strongest Men on their own respective countries/regions as well as recognized by IFSA as Strongest Men in The World. Thirteen countries sent their Stongest Men in to this year China GP Tournament including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Iceland, Poland, Canada, Faroe Island, Germany, Australia, Great Britain, USA and of course China.
